Product Overview
Raw strontium aluminate slowly reacts with moisture, so uncoated glow powder in water-based paint loses brightness within months as the phosphor surface degrades. Encapsulated grades solve this with a moisture-barrier coating — silane or silica-based surface treatments are typical — that isolates the phosphor particles from the aqueous phase while remaining dispersible. The result is a pigment that survives water-based factory tinting, outdoor weathering and alkaline substrates, keeping its afterglow performance (yellow-green, 10+ hours for good grades) through the coating’s service life. Because the coating adds a small dead layer around each particle, encapsulated grades trade a few percent of initial brightness for durability — the correct trade for exterior work, and unnecessary for sealed resin casting where uncoated powder is brighter. Manufacturers listed here supply coated grades with the barrier system named, water-resistance test data and recommended binder/loading ranges for exterior paint formulations.
